Starting tomorrow (Feb. 8, 2017), Gmail will display a banner stating that "Your browser is out of date, please upgrade" on Chrome versions 53 and below. For the vast majority of the district, this will not be an issue at all. The current version pushed out to PCs and Macs is 54 (56 is currently being tested at central office, and will likely be deployed very soon), and for Chromebooks the current version is 55 (56 might still be a bit, as that is a big one for those of you following Chrome OS).
This does, effectively end support for XP, as the latest version available for that OS is 49. Users will still be able to use Gmail until the end of the year, but it is time to start thinking about upgrading or retiring those. Also, there are currently 28,447 Chromebooks that are still at 53 and below across the district. Now, would be a really good time to get those updated, as PARCC testing also requires an up to date browser.
